Sarajevo airport and bus station to the Old Town

From Sarajevo airport to the city centre, the easiest way is our shuttle: it takes up to 3 people, straight to our door. The public option is the Centrotrans airport bus to Baščaršija, the Old Town. From the Sarajevo bus station or the train station, a tram and a city bus get you to the stop by our door in about 30 minutes.
Below is each way, step by step. If you are staying with us, message us before you arrive and we will help you plan it.
| Where from | How | Time to us |
|---|---|---|
| Airport | Our shuttle, up to 3 people | About 20 minutes by car |
| Airport | Centrotrans airport bus to Baščaršija | About 55 minutes by bus |
| Main bus and train station | Tram to Skenderija, then bus 72, 74 or 89 | About 30 minutes |
| East Sarajevo bus station | Trolleybus 103, then a city bus | - |
Timetables change, so check them before you travel.
Is there a shuttle from Sarajevo airport to the city centre?
Yes. We run our own airport shuttle, and it is the way we recommend. Book it online, or send us your flight time on WhatsApp and we will meet you at arrivals. It takes up to 3 people and runs both ways at any hour. Book on WhatsApp and you pay at reception, so you do not need local money the moment you land.
The drive from the airport to the hostel takes about 20 minutes. It is the easy choice if you land late, carry a big bag, or just want to get in, drop your things and eat.
Book the shuttle online, or send your flight number and landing time to us on WhatsApp: +387 61 263 419.
Is there a bus from Sarajevo airport to the city centre?
Yes. Centrotrans runs an airport bus from the terminal right through the city to Baščaršija (Bentbaša on the timetable). The airport lists it on its own bus page. Centrotrans's booking page showed the ride at 40 to 45 minutes when we checked.
You can buy a ticket from the driver or in the CentroCard app, says Centrotrans's timetable notice.

Can I take a tram or trolleybus from the airport?
Not straight from the terminal. The trams and trolleybuses are run by GRAS, the city transport company, and none of the lines on its website ends at the airport. So from the terminal it is the airport bus, or our shuttle.
Inside the city, trams and trolleybuses are cheap and easy. GRAS sells single rides and day tickets at its kiosks, and one of them is in Baščaršija. The GRAS ticket page lists where they are. Tram line 3 runs between Ilidža and Baščaršija.

How do I get from Sarajevo bus station to the Old Town?
Take a city bus. If you are coming to us, ride to Studentski Dom, the stop 1 minute from our door. From the main bus and train station, walk to the Muzej tram stop and take any tram to Skenderija. Then walk to the Koševo stop and take bus 72, 74 or 89 to Studentski Dom. It takes about 30 minutes. Or stay on the tram to Drvenija and take bus 14 from the Dom Armije stop. It runs once an hour.
The train station is in the same area as the main bus station, so the way is the same if you come in by train from Mostar or Zenica. Buy your GRAS ticket at a kiosk or from the tram driver, and keep it until you get off.
Going to Baščaršija first? Google Maps shows the tram or bus from the station too. From the Old Town you can then walk up to us, or take the tram to Skenderija and walk up from there (more on that below).

Where is the Studentski Dom bus stop?
It is 1 minute's walk from our door on Zaima Šarca. Buses 14, 72, 74 and 89 stop there, so it is the stop to aim for when you come from the station. Get off, walk up the street, and you are here.
Bus 72 is also an easy way back up from the Old Town at the end of the day, so it is worth knowing this stop even if you arrive another way.
How do I get from East Sarajevo bus station?
Some buses from Serbia and Montenegro come in at East Sarajevo bus station, not the main one. Walk to the Dobrinja stop and take trolleybus 103 into town. Get off at Skenderija or Drvenija, then follow the steps from the main station above.

How do I walk from the hostel to the Old Town?
Walk downhill. The Cathedral is about 12 minutes' walk from us, and Baščaršija about 19. Our guide to Baščaršija covers what to see once you are there.
The walk back up is uphill, so it takes a little longer. Take it slow, or take the tram to Skenderija and walk up through Veliki Park and Džidžikovac street. Or catch bus 72 to Studentski Dom.
What if I arrive late at night?
No problem. Reception is open from 8am to 11pm. If you land or arrive after that, message us a day or two before with your bus, train or flight time, so someone is up to let you in.
The last airport bus leaves the terminal at 23:30. If you land after that, book our shuttle.
The shuttle runs at any hour. The driver tracks your flight, so you are met even if you land after 11pm or before 8am.
Not booked yet? See our dorms and private rooms. Booking direct on this site means no booking fees.
How do I get back to Sarajevo airport when I leave?
The airport bus runs the other way from Baščaršija, with the times in the table above. The first one leaves at 06:45 on weekdays and 07:45 at weekends. It is about 19 minutes' walk down to the Old Town from us, so give yourself time to find the stop (Bentbaša) before the bus is due.
Check-out is by 11am. If your flight is later, we can keep your bags at the hostel after check-out, so you can spend the afternoon in town and collect them on the way.
Want a ride instead? Our shuttle runs to the airport too. Ask us at reception, or book it online.
